The Festival of Science

The Festival of Science or as it is officially called Lower Silesian Science Festival ( LSSF) is an interdisciplinary event organized to promote science, technology and the humanities. The main scope of this festival is to make people living in our region, to realize, that science is an integral part of the culture and civilization. We show that the thesis expressed in John Horgan's book "The End of Science" is wrong, at least for most of 75 thousand people participating our festival events in 2004. Number of interested people is growing (see bottom of the page there). The idea of the LSSF is to cover all fields of science and liberal arts, medicine, agriculture, economics, arts, sport etc. Organizers are from all higher education institutions of our region.

  • The University of Wroclaw
  • Wroclaw University of Technology
  • The Academy of Economics

The first edition of Lower Silesian Festival of Science was in 1998 and since then it is organized annually. It usually takes place at the end of September and begining of October and lasts seven days. It is in many locations of Wroclaw and towns of Lower Silesia: Jelenia Gora, Legnica, Walbrzych, Zabkowice Slaskie. The 1998 edition of the Science Festival was a weekend attraction now it is a big scale event. Truly thousands of visitors especially young people, but also teachers and general public have a chance to visit the lecture halls, laboratories of Wroclaw research institutions and touch the experimental devices, attend attractive lectures that they can comprehend, discuss and see that there are many openminded people. We are sure that this kind of activity makes the dialogue between "the Science and Society" easier and shows the importance of research to the general public.

Members of our Faculty and students as well, take part in varous activities like:

  • lectures
  • interdisciplinary panel discussions
  • workshops of scientists
  • discussion clubs
  • laboratories
  • shows
But of course this doesn't exhaust all types of events the Festival offers. For further detail, please consult nice pages of the site of the Lower Silesian Scientific Festival
